In 1936, Chong, O.D. was founded in San Francisco, CA by Arthur Chong, O.D., a graduate of UC Berkeley's School of Optometry. 

His first optometric practice was located on Grant Avenue in San Francisco's Famous Chinatown.

This modest space was the beginning of 84 years and counting of optometric service to San Francisco.

Arthur built a loyal following in 47 years of practicing optometry in Chinatown, and was highly respected in the community. 

In 1979, Chong, O.D. became a family business when Arthur’s son,  Richard Chong, O.D., joined his father after graduation from the Southern California College of Optometry. 

In 1983, they relocated to San Francisco’s historic North Beach neighborhood and a more spacious location.

These offices have served as hubs of community life and thriving health centers, providing primary eye care with a vision for several generations where we hope to see you soon.
